Pro Clima Contega Solido SL is a robust, self-adhesive internal connection tape for sealing airtightness membranes to masonry, concrete, and timber. The 80mm width provides a generous bonding area for reliable long-term airtight connections at wall-floor and wall-ceiling junctions.
Why Window and Door Sealing Matters
Window and door openings are among the most common weak points in a building's airtight layer. Even where membranes are correctly installed across walls, ceilings, and floors, the junctions between the frame and the surrounding structure are frequently left to expanding foam — a gap-filler that may not be permanently airtight and can degrade over time. Contega Solido SL provides a fully engineered, independently tested, and permanently airtight solution for these critical connections.
What Makes Contega Solido SL Different
The tape combines three key properties that make it specifically suited to window and door sealing on masonry and timber frame buildings:
The first is its adhesive. Contega Solido SL uses a modified waterproof solid acrylic adhesive — the same class of adhesive used across the Proclima tape range — that bonds with exceptional strength to mineral substrates including concrete, sand-lime brick, masonry block, and plaster, without requiring a primer in most cases. The bond is immediate and load-bearing from the moment the tape is pressed down.
The second is its flexibility. Unlike stiff backing tapes, Contega Solido SL can be manipulated around corners, reveals, and junctions without losing its seal — important when a single length of tape needs to travel around an entire window or door frame perimeter.
The third is its plasterable fleece face. Once the tape is in place, wet plaster can be applied directly over the top. The fleece provides a strong mechanical key for the plaster, creating a seamless, continuous transition between the frame, the tape, and the interior wall finish — with no visible tape edge and no secondary finishing required.
Where It's Used
- Interior sealing of window and door frames to masonry walls — concrete, blockwork, brick, sand-lime brick, and plaster substrates
- Interior sealing of window and door frames to timber-based structures and wood-based panels
- Connecting airtightness membranes (including Intello Plus) to window and door frames after installation
- Sealing wall-to-floor and wall-to-ceiling junctions in masonry buildings prior to wet plastering — preventing cracking at junctions from compromising the airtight layer
- Perimeter sealing for loft and suspended timber floor insulation refurbishments where membranes meet masonry walls
A Better Alternative to Expanding Foam
Expanding foam is still widely used to fill the gap between window frames and structural openings. It fills voids but doesn't form a reliable, durable airtight seal — and it can crack, shrink, or degrade over time. Contega Solido SL is a direct replacement: it seals the junction completely, bonds permanently to both the frame and the substrate, and is independently tested for long-term airtightness performance. On any project with an air permeability target, foam at window reveals is a risk; Contega Solido SL is not.
Pre-Installation or Post-Installation
Contega Solido SL can be applied in two ways. Post-installation is most common: once the window or door is fixed in the opening, the tape is applied directly to the face of the frame (typically 20mm onto the frame) and across to the surrounding substrate. Alternatively, for large projects or curtain walling systems, the tape can be pre-applied to the frame before installation, using the split release paper to stage adhesion and simplify positioning.
Installation Notes
Surfaces should be clean, stable, and free from dust, grease, and silicone. The tape comes with split release paper strips for staged application — remove strips in sequence as you work around the frame. Press firmly onto both surfaces and work carefully into corners. For three-sided corner junctions, cut a square of tape, make a small cut at the centre of one edge, fold into a corner shape fleece-inward, and press in place before taping the adjacent runs. On painted or potentially unstable surfaces, carry out an adhesion test before committing to full installation.
