Description

Pro Clima Tescon Primer RP is a water-based primer designed to enhance adhesion of Pro Clima tapes and membranes on difficult or porous substrates such as OSB, timber, concrete, and masonry. Supplied in a 1 litre bottle, it is brush or roller applied and fast drying.

Why Primer Matters

A Proclima tape is only as good as the surface it's bonded to. On smooth, stable substrates — planed timber, OSB, PVC, metal — tape adhesion is reliable without any additional preparation. But many of the surfaces encountered on a building site aren't like that. Rough concrete, wood fibre insulation board, plaster, masonry block, and rough-sawn timber all have surfaces that can crumble, dust, or delaminate under the pulling force of a tape bond. When that happens, the tape doesn't fail — the substrate does, taking the tape with it.

Tescon Primer RP solves this by penetrating into the surface and consolidating it from within. Applied before taping, it binds loose particles, stabilises fibrous surfaces, and creates a firm, continuous layer that gives the tape adhesive a reliable base to bond to. The result is an airtight seal that holds not just at the tape surface, but through the substrate beneath it.

No Drying Time — Tape Goes Straight On

One of the most practical advantages of Tescon Primer RP on site is that no drying time is required on absorbent surfaces. Apply the primer, and tape or Orcon F can go down immediately over the wet primer. On a busy build programme this is a real time saving — there's no waiting around for surfaces to cure before the airtightness work can continue. The primer is white and milky when wet; once dry it becomes clear, though taping over the wet primer on absorbent surfaces is fine and actively recommended.

Works in Difficult Conditions

Tescon Primer RP can be used on slightly damp or moist surfaces as well as dry ones, and can be applied in frosty conditions down to -10°C — making it a practical year-round product even on winter builds. The 1 litre squeezable bottle keeps the primer clean and dust-free between uses, and allows single-handed application directly to the surface without needing a separate container.

Where It's Used

Tescon Primer RP should be used before taping or applying Orcon F on any of the following surfaces:

  • Wood fibre insulation boards (e.g. Gutex, Steico) — primer is always required before Tescon Vana on these surfaces
  • Rough concrete floor slabs and walls
  • Plaster and plasterboard
  • Masonry — brick, block, and sand-lime brick
  • Rough-sawn or weathered timber
  • Any surface that produces dust when rubbed, or shows signs of delamination or instability
  • Mineral substrates around window and door openings before applying Contega Solido SL or Exo tapes

It is compatible with all Proclima tapes including Tescon Vana, Tescon No.1, Tescon Rapic, Tescon Profil, and the Contega Solido range, as well as Orcon F adhesive.

Application Notes

Brush or wipe the surface clear of loose dust and debris before applying. Shake or stir the bottle well before use. Squeeze or brush the primer onto the surface and spread evenly with a brush or small roller. On absorbent surfaces, tape can be applied immediately over the wet primer. On smooth, non-absorbent surfaces, allow the primer to dry fully before taping — the bond will be at maximum strength once dry. Do not apply to frozen or water-soaked surfaces. Protect the primed surface from rain until dry.
