Here's what's in the system and when to use each product.
The Two Main Approaches
Cementitious tanking (Type B) — a rigid slurry coating applied directly to the masonry or concrete substrate. Best suited to sound, stable structures where water pressure is low and the wall can support a bonded coating. Fast to apply and cost-effective on straightforward jobs.
Cavity drain membrane (Type C) — a studded HDPE membrane fixed to the wall or floor that creates a drainage cavity behind it, allowing water to migrate down to a drainage channel and sump rather than forcing it back. Compliant with BS8102:2022, and the preferred method for most inhabited basement conversions where long-term reliability matters.
CM8 Cavity Drain Membrane 2m x 20m (40m² per roll)
The heart of a Type C system. The CM8 is a clear studded membrane used on walls, floors, vaults and tunnels. Minimal surface preparation required — it can go over damp masonry without waiting for the substrate to dry out. Clear for easy location of fixing plugs. Suitable for basement conversions, external foundation waterproofing, and dry lining applications.
60mm fixings used to mechanically secure the CM8 membrane to the wall. Driven through the membrane studs into the masonry to hold the membrane tight and provide the base for dry lining systems above.
Corner Strip Tape 150mm x 1.5mm x 20m
Used to seal membranes at wall-to-floor junctions and internal corners — the most vulnerable points in any waterproofing system. Essential for a watertight installation.
Overseal Tape 75mm x 2mm x 22.5m
Forms a vapour barrier and waterproof seal at external joints and overlaps in the membrane. Used alongside corner strip tape to ensure continuity across the full installation.
The perimeter drainage channel that sits at the base of the wall, collecting water that migrates behind the cavity membrane and directing it towards the sump outlet. Installed at floor level around the perimeter of the tanked area.
For mid-floor drainage runs where water needs to be collected across a larger floor area rather than just at the perimeter.
Pre-formed corner piece for the Waterguard channel system — keeps drainage flowing cleanly around internal corners without cutting and mitring site-cut sections.
For branch connections in the drainage channel run where two channel runs meet.
Connects two lengths of Waterguard channel end-to-end cleanly.
Closes off the terminal end of a channel run.
The connection point between the Waterguard channel and the sump or drain below. Positioned at the lowest point of the drainage run.
A cementitious waterproofing slurry for Type B applications — brush or render-applied directly to sound masonry or concrete. Suited to outbuildings, plant rooms, and situations where a cavity drain system isn't required.
